TONY MUSIC INFO

This is the page for an Anthony Head music history lesson! Here you will find details of all Anthony Head's official music releases including cover art etc. This is almost in chronological order - but I couldn't put the "Once More With Feeling" soundtrack above the brilliant "Music for Elevators" so you'll have to bear with me on this one! Please note this is only for OFFICIALLY released recordings. If you think I've missed any details etc, then please let me know so that I can make this as complete as possible.

1. MUSIC FOR ELEVATORS - 2001: First up, obviously, is the eagerly awaited "Music For Elevators", a collaboration with George Sarah. Now officially released you can order the album by clicking on the album cover above. Tony has written most of the songs himself, which is another reason why most fans are so eager to get their hands on it. In fact, there were so many pre-orders via the website when the album was first announced that the site crashed more than once - and this has led to CMH Records sending out a significant number of pre-orders in advance of the release date. Thanks to CMH Records for kindly allowing me to reproduce the cover art on this site.

TONY'S COMMENTS ON "MUSIC FOR ELEVATORS":

During a marvellous telephone conversation with Tony Head, he revealed some interesting facts about "Music for Elevators". Joss Whedon's song, "The Last Time", was written specifically for the album, it WAS NOT, as has been rumoured, initially intended for the Buffy musical episode, "Once More with Feeling." The first version of the song that Tony came up with, Joss didn't like - he didn't say anything, but Tony worked out that Joss wasn't happy with it and subsequently came up with a second version that Joss loved. The "dead air" (read the review!) was Tony's idea and he takes full responsibility for it ... in other words, blame the big guy! "Qu'est ce que j'ai fait" (which for me is one of my total favourites!) is meant to be sung and heard in French - to translate the lyrics would be to lessen the songs effect and would "diminish" it. Tony said the album was a "complete departure" for him and I'll let him sum the album up in his own words: "If you get anything out of this album at all, it's that if it's meant to be, it will be." I would like to thank Tony Head for phoning me completely out of the blue ... causing my brain to take a hike and leave my mouth in control (not a good idea). This is why, although he said a lot more, I can't remember it! All I can say is that this album deserves to be a huge success ... and if you don't believe me then read the review below and then go out and buy it.

Once More With Feeling Official Soundtrack

2. ONCE MORE WITH FEELING - 2002: This is the newest Tony release ... so why is it below "Music For Elevators"? Personal preference on my part! I prefer MFE because it is ALL Tony whereas this is obviously a cast effort. Not without its merits though - there are some cracking songs on here ... especially the wonderful ballad that Tony sings ... which you tend to wish was much longer! You see? All you disbelievers out there ... something good DID come out of Season 6! You've obviously all seen the episode by now and heard all the songs so I don't really need to say much about it apart from the fact that Tony is as brilliant as ever and you can order it from the usual places such as AMAZON and POWERSTAR COLLECTABLES.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE NOT EASY TO FIND: I would suggest trying an online auction site like Ebay where they do surface from time to time or, alternatively, check with your local secondhand record shop - yes, there are still some around!

7 inch cover 12 inch picture disk

3. SWEET TRANSVESTITE - 1991: There were two versions of this released by Chrysalis Records in 1991. The 7 inch version and the 12 inch version. All-in-all there are three versions of "Sweet Transvestite" together with a marvellous rendition of the "Time Warp" by Edward Tudor-Pole and others. Seriously, this has simply got to be heard to be believed. From the evidence of these few songs you can understand why Tony was such an enormous hit as Dr Frank-N-Furter (of course, it had nothing to do with the fact that Tony was decked out in fishnets and high heels ... and looking absolutely stunning!)- the only thing missing is a "Rocky Horror Show" cast album featuring Tony. Songs featured are:

1. Sweet Transvestite - 7 inch version
2. Sweet Transvestite - The Sausage Mix
3. Sweet Transvestite - Hot-Dog Mix
4. The Time Warp

From Around the World in 80 Days

4. IN THE DEPTH OF NIGHT - 1990: This was released following Tony's performance as Phileos Fogg in the musical "Around the World in 80 Days". This is another that has to be heard to be believed! "In the Depth of Night" is a beautiful song anyway but when you hear Tony sing it, the song simply seems to take flight. Actually, I think, of all the songs I've heard Tony sing, "In the Depth of Night" is one of my favourites. A good test of a single is whether or not the "B" side stands up and, in this case, the answer is a firm "yes". I definitely prefer the "A" side but the song on the reverse, "Girl in my Arms" is pretty good and quite amusing nonetheless! Songs are as follows:

1. In the Depth of Night
2. Girl in my Arms

TWO WAY

5. ALL DRESSED UP by "TWO WAY" - 1983: Well, I certainly didn't realise that Tony was in a band until I came across this little item. If you like 80's music (which I must admit I do!) then this is definitely for you! I know some people have slated this but I actually rather enjoy it. The single did quite well in Europe - well enough to interest the record company in a possible album. Unfortunately, the record company folded before this could get past the negotiation stage. For those of you out there who are a bit language-challenged (much like myself) then "Nole Me Tangere" means "Do Not Touch Me". Once again, Tony's vocals shine throughout and there are three songs on this single:

1. All Dressed Up
2. Nole Me Tangere
3. Face in the Window

That's it for main releases but Tony has also provided backing vocals on a number of his brother, Murray Head's albums:

1. Sooner or Later - 1987
2. Restless - 1984
3. Shade - 1983
4. Voices - 1981
5. Between Us - 1979
6. Say It Ain't So - 1975

Okay, I hope this is of interest and if you have any questions or additional information you think I should add regarding the above then please email me. Thanks to CMH Records for their assistance; thanks to Alan for use of his scanner and many thanks to Sarah, Liz and Steve for letting me borrow their records for a while!
